The Palace of Illusions
Book: The Palace of Illusions
Author: Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni
I recently finished reading The Palace of Illusions, and it stayed with me for a long time after I closed the book.
What struck me most is that life is not always about victory or defeat. We spend so much time thinking about who won and who lost, but this story made me think about something deeper — how we carry ourselves through difficult moments.
Draupadi goes through humiliation, anger, love, pride, revenge, and loss. She is strong, but also very human. She questions, she reacts, she desires, and sometimes she regrets. That made her feel very real to me.
While reading, I kept thinking about dignity. Even when life becomes unfair or painful, the real strength is in holding on to courage and wisdom.
The book also reminded me that many of our struggles come from ego, misunderstandings, and the need to be right. A single moment of anger or pride can change the course of many lives.
In the end, what stayed with me is this: life is not just about winning. It is about understanding ourselves, our choices, and the consequences that follow.
This book felt less like a mythological story and more like a reflection of human nature.
One thought that stayed with me:
Maybe the real question is not who won the war, but what it cost everyone who fought it.
Have you read The Palace of Illusions? What stayed with you the most?
